A Swedish Coffee Table by Stig Lindberg for Nordiska Kompaniet

Stig Lindberg (b. Sweden 1916 - d. Italy 1982) was renowned for his designs in ceramics and textiles. In 1937, after studying painting, he went to work at Gustavsberg, the ceramics works, under Wilhelm Kage. In 1949, he was named Kage's successor as art director, and remained there until 1980.  He has won numerous arts prizes, including the Milan Triennale (1948, 1951, 1954 and 1957) and the International Ceramic Festival in Cannes (1955) and Prague (1962) His stoneware, particularly from the 1950s-1960s, is included in museum collections worldwide, including the National Museum in Stockholm, the Cooper Hewitt, the Smithsonian Design Museum, and MoMA.
